Weekly Robot: Flame Toys Furai Model Devastator

I was pretty good about consistently putting together model kits throughout 2019 and early 2020, but I've been neglecting a small mountain and really need to get back to it because kits like this really are amazing and fun to build. And mind you I'm not like any good at it, but it's just a nice exercise in patience and a way to appreciate good design work and engineering.

Devastator was the last kit I assembled and the fifth one from Furai that I've worked on. The very first one, Optimus, had some issues and he's a bit loose and flimsy so I wasn't sure if I really wanted to keep going. I'm glad I did though as the quality improved immensely and the details and styling is just top notch. I will eventually go insane one day due to trying to apply teeny tiny stickers with my large oafish fingers but it's still worth it.

As a model he's still a bit tricky to pose as his hips detached from his torso multiple times while I was taking these pics (I guess I can just glue him up to avoid issues like that), but overall he has amazing flexibility and some astonishing joint designs. They didn't have to make so many parts of him flexible, but it is greatly appreciated.

He also comes with two pairs of hands, allowing for some great Jojo style poses. And at no point previously in my life did the concepts of 'Jojo posing' and 'Devastator from Transformers' ever cross but now it's like it was meant to be and we've been all the poorer without this fusion in our lives.

Speaking of fabulous, I've always loved his color scheme and they do it great justice as he's incredibly vibrant with just the right amount of silver, black, and red to break up the greens and purples. As giant machines of destruction go, he is an absolute sexy mother******.

If you're not into Transformers that don't transform or you just don't like to bother with models then I can see this not having much appeal. It was a fun project for me though and I love new design interpretations of old classics, so I have to give it a 10/10.

Devastator's original bio:

"Thinking and winning do not mix."
Awesome and terrifying, this Decepticon is a bizarre combination of six Constructicons: Scrapper, Scavenger, Bonecrusher, Hook, Long Haul, and Mixmaster. He is pure brutality as his sole purpose is to crush all in his path. His mind is a melding together of his six parts, but he is limited by their competing thoughts. He possess enormous height and incredible strength -- can knock down a bridge with one punch. He carries a 10,000 degrees Celcius solar energy beam rifle. Devastator is slow, awkward, and not too bright.
