Upcoming Comics Spotlight: LGBTQ+

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

Time to check out some more upcoming queer material!

You'll see that I'll try to include a little order code with most items (ex:JUL200019). Show some love to your retailer and use those codes when you can, it saves a lot of time on the data entry end of things.

In The Pride, FabMan is sick of being seen as a joke. Tired of the LGBTQ+ community being seen as inferior to straight heroes, he thinks it's about damn time he did something about it. Bringing together some of the world's greatest LGBTQ+ superheroes, the Pride is born to protect the world and fight prejudice, misrepresentation and injustice-not to mention a pesky supervillain or two.

The Pride Adventures brings a whole host of extra, self-contained stories and adventures starring the heroes of the Pride! See the team members face down crazed shooters, invasions, and even a sixty-foot-tall drag queen!

Featuring a slew of incredible artistic talent, plus stories from writers Mike Garley, Sina Grace and PJ Montgomery too! Collects the original digital series The Pride and The Pride Adventures in print for the first time.

Why this caught my eye:

I was hoping this was going to go to print ever since they announced it as part of the comiXology originals release slate. I like the idea of launching a queer focused superhero universe within digital media and the omnibus print format. The past couple years saw the launching of too many new superhero universes and it's difficult to track an entire company launching. An anthology to sample an entire universe though? Much easier to check out.

(W) Maria Llovet (A) Maria Llovet (CA) Mirka Andolfo

From the artist of the bestselling Faithless series...comes Eros/Psyche.

La Rosa's female boarding school is paradise for young girls...but only if you follow the rules. Because, if you disobey them, you can end up expelled, or even worse, dead. Sara and Silje are two students learning the rules of the school, which includes classes by day...and the casting of curses and spells by night. A love develops between the two, which is tender, but threatens to break under the weight of the dark secret society within La Rosa.

Acclaimed creator Maria Llovet (Faithless, Heartbeat, Loud) brings you a surreal, bewitching tale of love, magic, and tragedy in Eros/Psyche.

Why this caught my eye:

Llovet has been getting a lot of attention and exposure as of late, and it feels like it's definitely worth keeping an eye on her work.

(W) Nagisa Furuya (A) Nagisa Furuya

A wistful summer blossoms between two high-school boys finding themselves and each other through a shared love of movies in this moving, dramatic, two-volume BL romance series, perfect for fans of Seven Days, Given, or I Hear the Sunspot.

Chiharu Saeki and Wataru Toda are two high school students who share a common hobby: They love to watch movies. After they meet, they become fast friends, until one day, when Chiharu confesses his love for Wataru. Wataru says that Chiharu's confession doesn't bother him, and the boys continue throughout their summer, going to pilgrimages to see film spots from their favorite movies. But the more time he spends with Chiharu, Wataru realizes that he may not only be as unaffected by Chiharu's confession as he claimed to be, but those feelings may also be mutual...

Why this caught my eye:

Just sounds like a sweet and short little two volume series.

(W) sometime (A/CA) sometime

Superhero action meets romantic hijinks in this yuri manga series about a heroine and the villainess who's fallen for her! When the villainess Honey Trap defeats the super-heroine Rapid Rabbit, she sees her nemesis' face for the first time... and falls head over heels in love! Unable to kill Rapid Rabbit, Honey Trap is cast out of her evil organization, her plans for world domination dashed. Now, the two superwomen are teaming up to fight evil together. Can Honey Trap defeat her former colleagues and seduce the heroine at the same time?

Why this caught my eye:

Ok, so first of all, it's difficult to come up with good superhero/villain names these days and I'm giving them a lot of credit for Honey Trap for the twofer of sexual innuendo plus the actual investigative practice of honey trapping. Secondly, that overall concept just sounds great.

(W) Iolanda Zanfardino (A/CA) Elisa Romboli

Alice, a young writer of children's story books, is hurtled out of her fairytale-like life when she discovers her girlfriend has been cheating on her!

Charmingly defiant, she leaves her small forest town and leaps into a new adventure to seek love (and find herself) in the fast life of San Francisco. There, her concept of pure, magical love will be completely overturnedher biggest challenge won't be reckoning with other people's sexual drive, it'll be getting a grip on her own!

From your new favorite writer and artist team of Iolanda Zanfardino and Elisa Romboli, Alice In Leatherland is a comedy about sex and so, inevitably, about every other aspect of life, too.

As Iolanda and Elisa describe the book: "Sex is recounted as a way to investigate our relationship with ourselves and others, with our bodies and our place in the world; sexual pleasure as self-affirmation and growth. There is room for Love, too, and bravery. And for many good laughs, that never hurts."

Why this caught my eye:

Sounds like a fun premise, and Romboli's artwork has a nice fluid quality to it that I really like.

That's it for this batch, we'll check out some sci-fi material next time!
