Upcoming Comics Spotlight: LGBTQ+

Updated: Dec 5, 2020

There were some more pickings in this catalog plus a couple I missed last time around, so thankfully not as desperate a search to fill this installment. Still, it would be so much better if there was an overabundance of queer material so I could cycle back to focus more times a month, just putting that out there for the general comic publishing industry as a whole.

You'll see that I'll try to include a little order code with most items (ex:JUL200019). Show some love to your retailer and use those codes when you can, it saves a lot of time on the data entry end of things.

MY LIFE IN TRANSITION SC

(W) Julia Kaye (A) Julia Kaye

My Life in Transition is a story that's not often told about trans lives: what happens beyond the early days of transition. Both deeply personal and widely relatable, this collection illustrates six months of Julia's life as an out trans woman-about the beauty and pain of love and heartbreak, struggling to find support from bio family and the importance of chosen family, moments of dysphoria and misgendering, learning to lean on friends in times of need, and finding peace in the fact that life keeps moving forward.

DEC201214

Why this caught my eye:

Looked up a bunch of Kaye's work and really enjoy her style and sense of humor. This looks to be a must have book that shops should try to keep in stock as much as possible.

DOUGHNUTS UNDER CRESCENT MOON GN VOL 01

(W) Shio Usui (A) Shio Usui

A yuri romance for the modern career woman! Uno Hinako throws herself into makeup, fashion, and falling in love, hoping that will make her seem "normal" to the other people at her job. But no matter how hard she tries, she's a self-doubting mess inside, and her attempts at "normal" romance with men just keep failing. When she starts to think she might be alone forever, a new normal presents itself - in the form of her relationship with Asahi Sato, a level-headed woman who works at her company, which starts as respect until it becomes far more intimate.

NOV201848

Why this caught my eye:

This also falls under my purview of 'sufficiently odd sounding manga titles that require investigation'. The story also sounds sweet, but there is no hint of doughnuts in the solicit info so this bears further inspection.

HAZARDS OF LOVE SC

(W) Stan Stanley (A) Stan Stanley

Amparo's deal with the talking cat was simple: a drop of blood and Amparo's name in order to become a better person. Their mother and abuela would never worry about them again, and they'd finally be worthy of dating straight-A student Iolanthe. But when the cat steals their body, becoming the better person they were promised, Amparo's spirit is imprisoned in a land of terrifying, flesh-hungry creatures known as Bright World.

With cruel and manipulative masters, and a society that feeds on memories, Amparo must use their cleverness to escape, without turning into a monster like the rest. On "the other side," Iolanthe begins to suspect the new Amparo has a secret. After the cat-in-disguise vanishes, Iolanthe's left to search for answers with a no-nonsense medium from the lesbian mafia - the only person who might know the truth about Bright World.

NOV201426

Why this caught my eye:

You had me at lesbian mafia. Gonna need more info on that tidbit, stat. Also I like Stanley's style a lot and can (and should) check out their site and support them.

SUGAR TOWN GN

W) Hazel Reed Newlevant (A/CA) Hazel Reed Newlevant

A bisexual, polyamorous love story for the modern era. Hazel is already in a happy relationship when she meets Argent, a dominatrix who is sweet and tender outside of the bedroom. Sugar Town is a fun, colorful comic about a young woman's journey through the delights and disappointments of multiple lovers.

NOV201516

Why this caught my eye:

This is actually an older release but it's worth highlighting as it's being re-offered through Diamond. I like Newlevant's style, definitely check out more of her work and support if you can.

HOLLOW HEART #1

(W) Paul Allor (A/CA) Paul Tucker

EL used to be human. Now he's a jumble of organs in a bio-suit. EL is also in tremendous pain and has been for a very long time. Hope arrives in the form of Mateo, a mechanic brought in to work on EL's suit. Mateo sees LK in a way no one ever has. And what's more: Mateo offers EL an escape. Hollow Heart reunites Tet creators Paul Allor and Paul Tucker for a queer monster love story about the choices we make between giving our loved one what they want and what we think they need. DEC201747

Why this caught my eye:

Caught a quick article about this and it sounded pretty interesting. In general we can do with more queer monster love stories.

THAT FULL MOON FEELING ONE SHOT

(W) Ashley Robin Franklin (A) Ashley Robin Franklin

A witch and a werewolf go on three disastrous dates in this magical queer romcom. Follow along with Suzy & Jada as they navigate online dating awkwardness, hungry monsters, jealous exes, rude skeletons, boring movies, feelings (!!!), and more! DEC201668

Why this caught my eye:

I really enjoyed Franklins One Million Tiny Fires, I like Silver Sprocket as a publisher, and this just looks like fun.

That's it for this round, we'll aim towards some horror next time!
