Upcoming Comics Spotlight: Horror & Supernatural

Time for discovering new spoopies once again! If only it could be a season of eternal spooptitude.

You'll see that I'll try to include a little order code with most items (ex:JUL200019). Show some love to your retailer and use those codes when you can, it saves a lot of time on the data entry end of things.

TWO MOONS #1

(W) John Arcudi (A) Dave Stewart (A/CA) Valerio Giangiordano

RUMBLE and B.P.R.D. writer JOHN ARCUDI is back at Image with rising star VALERIO GIANGIORDANO for an all-new ONGOING HORROR SERIES! This issue starts the long journey of a young Pawnee man named Virgil Morris - a.k.a. Two Moons.- fighting for the Union during the Civil War. When he is suddenly confronted with his shamanic roots, he discovers horrors far worse than combat as the ghosts of his past reveal the monstrous evil around him!

DEC200044

Why this caught my eye:

I absolutely love Arcudi from his BPRD run to his Aliens work and more, so anytime he has a new project it is 100% worth checking out. Giangiordano's artwork looks great as well, so I'm looking forward to a horror story taking place in this time period.

CHAINED TO THE GRAVE #1

(W) Brian Level, Andrew Eschenbach (A/CA) Kate Sherron

Outlaw Roy Mason has come back from the dead, chained to the headstone that marked his grave. It's a lawless time, a magical time, and the undead Roy soon finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place as he sets out in search of treasure. But Roy, trying to do right by the wife and children he left behind, soon finds out that everything is not always as it seems... Writers Brian Level & Andrew Eschenbach (Darth Vader, Thanos, Deadpool) and artist Kate Sherron (Invader Zim, The Amazing World of Gumball) bring you a tail of intrigue, murder, magic, and the good ol' wild, wild west!

DEC200421

Why this caught my eye:

I'm a huge sucker for supernatural westerns (Sixth Gun is one of my favorite series) and Sherron's artwork looks sharp.

ROBERT E HOWARD RATTLE OF BONES HC

(W) Robert E. Howard (A/CA) Gabriel Rodriguez

Collecting 8 horror stories from Conan's creator, Robert E. Howard, with all-new illustrations by Locke & Key co-creator, Gabriel Rodriguez.

This collection includes the prose short stories: In the Forest of Villefere, Wolfshead, Sea Curse, A Tale of Faring Town, Rattle of Bones, The Touch of Death, Dig Me No Grave, People of the Dark, and The House of Arabu.

Each story originally appeared in the shudder pulps of the 1920s and 30s and are accompanied by all-new full-color illustration by Rodriguez. Master of horror, Steve Niles, provides an afterword that looks at Howard's prolific and short life.

Published by arrangement with Weird Tales and Robert E. Howard Properties, LLC.

DEC201374

Why this caught my eye:

Clover Press has been putting out some nice projects lately, so a nice chunk of Howard horror stories sounds like an awesome package from them. Gabriel Rodriguez collaborating with additional illustrations is just a great icing on the cake.

YOUNG HELLBOY THE HIDDEN LAND #1

Stranded on a strange island after a mishap on their way to a South American dig site, Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm are confronted by all manner of monsters! But even when the stranger who rescues them turns out to be one of Hellboy's heroes, they aren't as safe as they think they are!

Join Hellboy creator Mike Mignola as he teams with writer Tom Sniegoski, artist Craig Rousseau, and colorist Dave Stewart to bring you a tale of Hellboy's childhood!

DEC200249

Why this caught my eye:

Listen, it was always a pain in the butt to try and get people to track their Hellboy orders since they always launch these short runs. I feel almost duty bound to share a new offering on the chance it will get someone to pre-order the damn series through their retailer instead of assuming the retailer will cover them automatically.

SPECTER INSPECTORS #1

(W) Bowen McCurdy, Kaitlyn Musto (A/CA) Bowen McCurdy

* For fans of supernatural stories like Blackbird and Vampironica comes a new series from Bowen McCurdy (The Long Way Home) & rising star Kaitlyn Musto introducing the Spector Inspectors, who live that Scooby Doo life chasin' ghosts!

* True believer Noa, her cynical little sibling Gus, credulous camera man Ko, and skeptical Astrid head to one of the most haunted towns in America to prove that ghosts exist, for all the social media likes!

* The investigations of hauntings uncover something more devilish than just a couple of ghosts, something that will put Noa and Astrid's relationship to the test...

* ...and reveal the centuries-old sinister secrets of the town itself.

* Every issue of Specter Inspectors is oversized, featuring more than 30 story pages. DEC201010

Why this caught my eye:

Kinda just gets points for the great name, but it also looks like a lot of fun. There's a good preview over at the Beat worth checking out.

That's it for this batch, we'll check out some sci-fi next time!
