Upcoming Comics Spotlight: Fantasy

An eclectic arrangement of fantasy titles to check out!

You'll see that I'll try to include a little order code with most items (ex:FEB211476). Show some love to your retailer and use those codes when you can, it saves a lot of time on the data entry end of things.

(W) Henry Barajas (A/CA) Rahmat Handoko, Bryan Valenza

New Latinx fantasy by HENRY BARAJAS, author of the critically acclaimed LA VOZ DE M.A.Y.O.: TATA RAMBO! The last dragon prince has been abducted-kept prisoner by an unknown threat: AZTEC MEXICA! Helm Greycastle and his outsider comrades are here to save the prince-but are recruited by a resistance plotting to overthrow Montezuma. Will Greycastle help save the people of MEXICA...or rescue the dragon prince and flee?

BONUS! HELM GREYCASTLE #1 includes a Latinx one-shot RPG (5E compatible) written by TRISTAN J. TARWATER (Rolled & Told) and art by JEN VAUGHN.

Why this caught my eye:

The preview has a funny/sad opening bit where the usual magical skeleton guards are actually the downtrodden victims and I just really liked that. I just want more fiction where the usual evil monsters are just trying to live their lives.

(W) Sam Maggs (A) Hunter Severn (CA) Cathy Le

Jester Lavorre had an unconventional upbringing, even for one born in cosmopolitan Nicodranas. Daughter of the famed Ruby of the Sea, she had many opportunities for mischief as a small child, of which she took full advantage! Dive into the mystery of Jester's early years, her first meeting with the Traveler, and the fateful events that set her on a path to eventually join the Mighty Nein.

Jester's story is brought to life by writer Sam Maggs (Captain Marvel, The Unstoppable Wasp) with art by Hunter Severn Bonyun, in direct consultation with Laura Bailey! It's available as a gorgeous hardcover, ready to take its place in your Critical Role library!

Why this caught my eye:

Just highlighting for the Critical Role fans.

(W) Justin Jordan (A/CA) Luca Claretti, Giovanna Niro

Skybound dives into the wondrous world of Summoners War, the popular mobile game where magical monsters are summoned in a never-ending battle of good vs. evil! Rai knows there's only one way out of her nothing town-to become a summoner! But when she's recruited by Abuus Dein as an apprentice, she embarks on the adventure of a lifetime and is thrust into a war for the fate of the world.

Journey to Alea alongside JUSTIN JORDAN (THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE, REAVER) and newcomer LUCA CLARETTI for an action-packed fantasy like none other!

Why this caught my eye:

I know nothing of Summoners War, but I like the Luca Clareetti art. Especially this cat.

(A) Dick Giordano, Bill Molno, Charles Nicholas, Steve Ditko, Rocco Mastroserio

PS Artbooks presents another Silver Age Classic with this "Bobby Dazzler" straight from the Charlton vaults, Mysteries of Unexplored Worlds, which mixes a concoction of fantastic fantasy-supernatural tales and mind blowing science fiction stories from a roster of writers and artists that includes Steve Ditko together with Bill Molno, Dick Giordano, Charles Nicholas and Rocco Mastroserio. All here, reproduced completely from cover to cover as they should be, just like the original comic! Collects Mysteries of Unexplored Worlds #1-5 (August 1956 to October 1957).

Why this caught my eye:

Always a treat to get some obscure Ditko work.

(W) Jo Whittemore (A/CA) Rii Abrego

"Long, long ago, sprites were the caretakers of gardens. Every flower was grown by their hand. But when humans appeared and began growing their own gardens, the sprites' magical talents soon became a thing of the past. When Wisteria, an ambitious, kind-hearted sprite, starts to ask questions about the way things used to be, she'll begin to unearth her long-lost talent of gardening. But her newly honed skills might not be the welcome surprise she intends them to be.

The Sprite and the Gardener, the debut graphic novel by Joe Whitt and Rii Abrego, is bursting with whimsical art and vibrant characters. Join our neighborhood of sprites in this beautiful, gentle fantasy where both gardens and friendships begin to blossom."

Why this caught my eye:

Rii Abrego's artwork is absolutely beautiful and you should check out her stuff ASAP.

That's it for this batch, we'll check out some non-fiction on the next installment!
