Why this caught my eye:

While F*ck Off Squad didn't exactly land for me, I did appreciate the approach and developments of this creative team on that project. I really like Goux's art as well, plus the solicit is giving me a slight Perfect Blue vibe so I'm interested in seeing how they play this plot.

Why this caught my eye:

I could only spot a couple preview pages online but the art did look like a lot of fun. The solicit just sounds like an interesting bit of an existential road trip.

DELICACY GN

(W) James Albon (A/CA) James Albon

Rare and delicious fungi spell trouble for an ambitious restaurateur in this sumptuously painted graphic novel from one of Scotland's most imaginative young cartoonists. This thrilling page-turner, a fascinating glimpse into the high-pressure world of big-city restaurants, is a must-read for foodies, Anglophiles, Food Network fans, and those with a taste for beautiful, terrible people.

Tulip and his brother Rowan have left the simple comforts of their remote Scottish island with a plan: to grow succulent, organic vegetables in an idyllic market garden, and to open a restaurant serving these wholesome culinary delights to the busy sprawl of London.

The world of fine dining seems impossibly competitive... until they discover a deliriously scrumptious new species of mushroom. The dish brings diners in droves, catapulting their small restaurant to success beyond their wildest dreams.

Now, pressured by the demands of a hungry city, Tulip is desperate to crack the secret of their new ingredient's growth. But just how much will he sacrifice to feed his own insatiable ambition?

James Albon is a British writer and illustrator. He studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art, and went on to a postgraduate scholarship at the Royal Drawing School in London. Why this caught my eye:

I haven't been sharing enough food comics as of late, and Albon's style caught my eye.

RIVERS GN

(W) David Gaffney (A/CA) Dan Berry

Three ordinary weirdos, one recurring dream. The acclaimed minds behind The Three Rooms in Valerie's Head return with a whimsical and ambitious portrait of human connection in the age of digital fragmentation.

You meet the strangest people on the internet.

Gideon is a lonely I.T. developer, obsessed by a comic book from childhood called Revenge of the Ghoulors, and secretly in love with his co-worker Lisa. Heidi works at home in her pyjamas, makes a lot of soup, and wishes she had time for friends. Peter is a 56-year-old divorcee who delivers classic cars, has a built-in toaster, and thinks a lot about the past.

These three people seem unconnected, yet they share something-they each have the same recurring dream. And when a new web service is introduced that helps people share their dreams, what will happen when the three of them find out about each other? Just what is it that links these three lonely souls?

Nimbly weaving together multiple storylines (including extracts from Gideon's comic book, Revenge of the Ghoulors), Dan Berry and David Gaffney present Rivers: a quirky examination of how events from the past can bind people together forever, and a surprising reunion between people who've never met.

Why this caught my eye:

Here are some great preview pages on Berry's website you can check out. I'm really liking his style and what we can read so far looks great.

HARD MELODY HC

(W) Lu Ming (A/CA) Lu Ming

Three middle-aged friends reunite in Beijing to reflect on their high school dreams of becoming rock stars if their dreary adult lives hadn't gotten in the way. Now they seek to turn their disillusionment into purpose with plans of one more gig to show the world what they are capable of.

FEB211411

Why this caught my eye:

Magnetic Press has been pushing this quite a bit (see additional video trailer here), and Lu Ming's artwork looks amazing. I'm also pretty much always down with giving Magnetic projects a chance.

That's it for this batch, we'll be looking at some manga next time!
