Upcoming Comics Spotlight: Action/Adventure

This batch of action/adventure features Crusaders VS Jack The Ripper, historical fiction centered around the French Army in 1917, a mobster-murdering assassin, the return of Jim Mahfood's Grrl Scouts, and a new Vault title aiming to reclaim the cyberpunk genre for Asian audiences.

CROSS TO BEAR #1

(W) Marko Stojanovic (A/CA) Sinisa Banovic

Jack the Ripper was never caught because no one was looking for him in the Wild West...No one accept The Order. An organization made up of the descendants of Crusaders sworn to eradicate the unnatural, The Order will stop at nothing to fulfill the pledge their forefathers made, even if it means crossing the ocean or a line or two...

Why this caught my eye:

I kinda lol'ed when I read that a key element of the premise is that Jack The Ripper was never caught simply because he packed up and moved. That's enough to make me curious, and tossing in a bunch of Crusaders sounds like stupid fun.

SWAN SONG GN VOL 01

(W) Xavier Dorison, Emmanuel Herzet (A) Cedric Babouche

1917. Nivelle - "The Butcher" - commands the French Army, and the attacks he keeps ordering are pointless slaughters. The soldiers in the trenches can't take it any more. Discontent is turning into rebellion, and a petition is being circulated in secret. When it makes its way to the men of Sergeant Sabiane, something snaps in them, and what begins as a simple cry of defiance becomes a full-blown mutiny when a handful of them decide to take the petition to Paris.

Why this caught my eye:

I enjoyed Dorison's Long John Silver a lot, so I'm down with checking out another interesting historical fiction.

JENNIFER BLOOD #1

(W) Fred Van Lente (A) Vincenzo Federici (CA) Lucio Parrillo

So...once upon a time, a suburban housewife spent her nights as a mobster-murdering assassin, named JENNIFER BLOOD. Then she died...or did she? Because in the cozy cul-de-sacs of Bountiful, Utah, a noticeable number of normal people have gone missing. And by "normal," I mean "mobsters under witness protection." And by "missing," I mean killed by someone that looks, sounds, and murders a lot like JENNIFER BLOOD...

By FRED VAN LENTE (Wolverine) and VINCENZO FEDERICI (Red Sonja)!

Why this caught my eye:

The original Jennifer Blood by Garth Ennis never really landed for me as it felt like Ennis was regurgitating elements of his Punisher run, but I do really like Fred Van Lente so I'm curious to see what he can bring to the table.

GRRL SCOUTS STONE GHOST #1

(W) Jim Mahfood (A/CA) Jim Mahfood

Superstar artist and comics-makin' weirdo JIM MAHFOOD returns to his creator-owned GRRL SCOUTS universe for a brand-new six-issue miniseries! Why this caught my eye:

I know Covid has messed up my sense of time, but regardless it feels like a small eternity since the last time I've seen published Mahfood art. Plus that Momoko cover they're hyping is really nice.

FOX AND HARE #1

(W) Jonathan Tsuei (A) Stacey Lee (CA) Stacy Lee

When black market coder Aurora Yi uncovers top secret data that has tapped into the past lives of the citizens of Mazu Bay, her world is turned upside down. The mega corporation Synastry Designs wants its data back and is hot on her trail. Aurora has no choice but to turn to the Fox and the Hare, the most feared mercenaries in the city, for protection.

Why this caught my eye:

This article caught my attention a month or so back, plus I really like Stacy Lee's art.

That's it for this batch, we'll hit crime on the next wave!
