SPACE GHOST #1

(W) David Pepose (A) Jonathan Lau (CA) Francesco Mattina

Greed and corruption flourish in the darkness between stars. With the territories of the Galactic Federation spread far and wide across the vastness of space, pirates and hijackers ransack the distant colonies with cruel disregard for the innocent scientists living within them.

Yet there is a cosmic vigilante who metes out justice throughout the galaxy, bringing vengeance to those prey upon the defenseless.

Some say he is a policeman who has abandoned the strictures of the law. Others say he is a phantom, the sole survivor of a war-torn planet. And those who have survived his wrath claim he is more a force of nature, able to bend the very elements of Creation to decimate his enemies.

They call him the SPACE GHOST - and his adventures begin here!

Award-winning writer DAVID PEPOSE (Punisher) and superstar artist JONATHAN LAU (Vampirella Strikes) kick off this action-packed series with a surprise attack on Space Colony Omicron - home of the brilliant scientist Dr. Jerrod Keplar and his young children, Jan and Jace, as well as their pet monkey, Blip. With the colony's defenses overwhelmed, all seems lost - but these ruthless pirates didn't count on the wild card that is Space Ghost!

This debut issue also includes covers from some of the finest artists in the known universe - including FRANCESCO MATTINA, JAE LEE & JUNE CHUNG, BJORN BARENDS, and MICHAEL CHO!

Why this caught my eye:

I generally am always hoping for a solid Space Ghost comic so here's to hoping, but hey just check out some of the great variants.

Why this caught my eye:

The pulp 'Doc Savage meets Namor' vibe is kind of interesting, but I'm more here for the Butch Guice artwork.

REDCOAT #1

(W) Geoff Johns (A/CA) Bryan Hitch

SERIES PREMIERE

Immortal. Mercenary. Kind of a tool. Meet Simon Pure, the newest UNNAMED hero, created by comic all-stars GEOFF JOHNS and BRYAN HITCH. British redcoat and all-around rogue, Simon mysteriously became immortal in 1776 after a run-in with the clandestine cabal known as the Founding Fathers, which included George Washington, John Hancock, and many other prominent American Revolutionary War leaders. Since that fateful day, Simon has led a life of adventure and avarice, rubbing elbows (and sometimes fists) with many of history's most renowned figures, including his nemesis Benedict Arnold, Albert Einstein, Annie Oakley, and many more. One thing they all agree on: they never want to see him again! But what are the true origins and extent of Simon's power and the mysterious organization behind them? And how has it secretly shaped America and the world? Simon's on a quest to find out!

34 pages of story for only $3.99!

Why this caught my eye:

The 'immortal asshole' pitch sounds like it can be a lot of fun actually.

ROOK EXODUS #1

(W) Geoff Johns (A/CA) Jason Fabok

SERIES PREMIERE

GEOFF JOHNS and JASON FABOK, the celebrated team behind the smash hit Batman: Three Jokers, reunite for an all-new science fiction series! Hundreds of years from now, the man known as Rook was once a simple farmer who fled the crumbling Earth for a new life on the planet Exodus; a terraformed planet where all of nature, including its imported animal population, was completely controlled by humans called Wardens. But when Exodus's world engine failed, the Wardens' power fell into the wrong hands, creating chaos and mass evacuation... for those who could afford it. The rest, like Rook, must scavenge for an escape vessel as the war for control of what's left of Exodus begins.

44 pages of story for only $3.99!

Why this caught my eye:

it does feel kinda like 'space Mad Max meets Noah's Ark' a little but it sounds like it could be a fun little sci-fi jaunt and Fabok's art will look sharp

Why this caught my eye:

I can never tell if the 'release a single issue then immediately release the TP' strategy is ever actually helpful for people, but I respect any creators giving it a try. And always nice to see David Hahn art, so sounds like fun.
